ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. ( The St. Charles County Police Chief got the day off Friday after a 10-year-old Wentzville boy was sworn in as the department's 2018 honorary chief.

Luke Reever, a fifth grader from Peine Ridge Elementary, got a guided tour of the police station and sat behind the wheel of a patrol car as the lights flashed.

Luke also got to meet Mickey Mouse,

"With so much negativity in the world it's just really cool that they recognized him and I think Luke has thoroughly enjoyed this experience," said Luke's mom, Amy Rever.

The program gives special recognition to local children who help make St. Charles County a great place to live. In a Facebook post, the police department stated Luke was chosen because he consistently sets an example of good citizenship for other young residents.

"It's a good program for us and helps us feel better and keeps us involved in the community that we serve," said St. Charles Police Chief Dave Todd.

This is the third year for the chief for the day program at the department.
