ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A 4-year-old child was killed and others were injured in a two-vehicle accident in St. Peters, Mo. Friday night.
The St. Peters Police Department responded to a car accident on Salt River Road near the Spencer Road overpass around 10:15 p.m. Friday.
Police said their investigations revealed the driver of a 2000 Chevy Van, later identified as Curtis Hemphill, was traveling westbound on Salt River Road when it hit a patch of ice, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The van crossed into the eastbound lanes of Salt River, striking a 2017 Jeep Liberty head-on.
Police said the Jeep was carrying two adults, later identified as Stephanie Foust and 23-year-old Alyssa Coleman, and three children. An off-duty EMT came upon the crash and immediately starting rendering first aid to 4-year-old Jennavecia Ruvalcaba of Old Monroe, Mo, who was unresponsive in the Jeep.
Detectives said two infants, 7-month-old Micah Powelson and 23-month-old Mila Powelson, were also inside the Jeep during the crash.
All of the crash victims were transported to local hospitals with various injuries. Ruvalcaba was transported to St. Joseph’s Health Center where she was pronounced dead.
Police said both infants were taken to Cardinal Glennon and are currently in stable condition. Coleman, Foust and one in the Chevy were also taken and are also in stable condition.
Accident reconstruction crews responded to the scene for an investigation.
No charges or tickets have been issued as of yet.
Police said drugs or alcohol is not suspected as playing a role in the crash.
