CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The parents of a 13-year-old Chesterfield girl are thankful to have their daughter safe and sound after she narrowly escaped an abduction attempt Saturday.

The girl was at the Premium Outlet Mall with her family when the attempted abduction occurred in the parking lot, police said.

While the mother stayed at the curb, the teen walked to the car by herself, which was halfway down the parking lot. The teen quickly entered and exited the car, bumping into a white male as she exited.

The suspect asked the teen if she was was alone and cornered her near the vehicle, forcing her inside her own car. The girl repeatedly yelled as the suspect demanded the keys to the car and covered her mouth.

The girl was able to escape the suspect’s grip by shoving him against another parked car after he uncovered her mouth. The teen then ran toward her mother, who said she was unable to see what was going on from where she was standing.

"It's terrifying. You feel like you're in a safe area and it takes a split second for something like that to happen," said nearby resident Natalie White.

The suspect fled the scene. Police are searching for a white male described as “chubby,” 6-feet tall, with red hair, light blue eyes, freckles, a full red beard, and was wearing a baseball hat and a grey T-shirt and jean shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chesterfield Police Department.
