The wife of a local Ku Klux Klan leader spoke exclusively to News 4 after her husband, Frank Ancona, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head over the weekend.
FARMINGTON, Mo. (AP) — The wife of a slain Missouri Ku Klux Klan leader says in a letter from jail that she was the one who pulled the trigger, not her son.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Malissa Ancona and her son, Paul Edward Jinkerson Jr., face charges that include first-degree murder in the death of Frank Ancona, who called himself an "imperial wizard" of the Ku Klux Klan.
Dozens of animals were rescued from the home of murdered KKK leader Frank Ancona. His wife, Malissa, who is accused of being involved in his murder, ran an unlicensed animal rescue inside their Leadwood, Mo. home.
She agreed last year to testify against her son. She originally told police that Jinkerson shot his stepfather after he asked her for a divorce. The body of the 51-year-old was found in February 2017 outside of Belgrade, which is about 70 miles (110 kilometers) miles south of St. Louis.
Barnhart rejected a plea deal with prosecutors. Jinkerson's trial is set for May.
Below is the letter that Ancona sent to the St. Francois County court:
Dear Judge Horn,
I am wrighting [sic] you in regards to my public defender Stephanie Zitful. This is the 2nd lawyer I had from this office, that I feel isn’t doing their job. I can’t get her to come see me, and I have important info I need to give her about my case. I should of already had a visit for a evaluation with a therapist over a year ago, and should have been put on my meds. My family was told in June 2017 that it was approved for me to see a dr. So why haven’t I gone? The State of Missouri said in 2003 that I was permitly [sic] mentally ill. I need to speak to a lawyer as the last one I had, Wayne Williams told me to lie. I was under the influence when I spoke to the detective. I couldn’t recall what happened the night my husband was shot and my son is innocent. My son has court in Oct. and I want to let the court know now, that he did not pull the trigger, (I DID).
I feel is Mrs. Zitful can’t do her job that I would like to fire her, and get someone else.
