(Meredith) -- A woman in Indiana who has owned monkey for years is claiming someone stole the newest addition to her family.

"It's like having a baby. She was with me day and night from the time I got her," Beth Garber told WSBT.

Garber says that on Tuesday, May 26, she found someone breaking into her home. She said the burglar got inside, stole the monkey and ran away.

She and her husband chased after the thief that had stolen Gia, the pet monkey, but couldn't catch them.

"I am in great fear that she is not being fed right and that she could die before we get her back," Garber said.
