OLIVE BRANCH, MS (KMOV.com) -- A Mississippi voter who was photographed wearing a shirt with a Confederate flag and a noose voting on election day was fired.

Clayton Hickey's employer, Regional Health One, said they are a safe place for patients, guests, and employees.

Many found the shirt to be inappropriate and ill-timed.

One neighbor said Hickey gets in a lot of trouble. This was referring to when Hickey resigned from the Memphis Police Department after being caught with a 17-year-old girl and alcohol.

The voter who snapped the viral photo thinks it sends a hateful message.

In the state of Mississippi, the only clothing you cannot wear to the polls is clothing that shows a candidate's face or name, CNN reports.
