Two men have been charged after allegedly robbing and pistol-whipping a man in Collinsville April 12. Neither suspect is in custody and police are searching for them.
Phillip M. Campbell Jr., 24, of St. Louis is charged with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and one count of Aggravated Battery. His bond will be set at $500,000.
Abias P. Crosby, 23, of St. Louis is charged with one count of Armed Robbery. His bond will also be set at $500,000.
On April 12, the Collinsville Police Department responded to the area near Eastport Dr. and Executive Dr. after receiving a 911 call for a man who sustained facial injuries. The caller told police the victim was bleeding from the face and may have been shot.
Upon arriving, officers found the victim, who was conscious and breathing.
The victim told police he was walking on the street when he was approached from behind by a man who demanded his cell phone. When the victim turned around, the suspect pointed a gun at the victim's head and again demanded his cell phone and his wallet.
Police said a physical altercation ensued and the gun was fired during the scuffle. However, police said the victim was not shot, but he was smacked in the face by the gun itself, which caused facial injuries.
Police said the victim gave the suspect his wallet but was able to run away. The suspect then fled the area in a get-away vehicle that was waiting nearby.
The victim was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition.
Collinsville police said investigators identified the two suspects within 24 hours of the incident. The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office issued charges against Campbell, Jr. and Crosby April 20.
Police are still searching for the at-large suspects.
