(Meredith) - New York City police released a startling video that shows a man hitting a 65-year-old bus driver in the face with a padlock.
The violent encounter happened after the man arrived late at a Brooklyn bus stop, according to police. Surveillance video shows the man flagging down the bus before it pulls away around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He then runs to the next stop, gets on the bus and strikes the driver in the face before fleeing the scene.
The driver needed 10 stitches to close a wound above his eye following the attack, News 12 Brooklyn reported.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
In a statement, the president of New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority said: "This unprovoked assault is completely appalling. We will do everything we can to assist the NYPD in bringing those responsible for this heinous attack to justice."
