2 vehicles overturned and caught fire in an accident on I-70

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- An accident involving two Missouri drivers ended in flames in Cooper County overnight Thursday. 

According to the Missouri Highway State Patrol, the incident occurred as a stranded vehicle was blocking the driving lane on eastbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 111 just before 11 p.m. A Freightliner, unknown year, stopped behind it only to be struck in the rear by another vehicle, a 2016 Freightliner

Officials said both Freightliners involved in the crash overturned and caught fire after the impact. 

The drivers of both crashed vehicles were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
