A drug deal gone wrong ended with a woman getting struck by a stray bullet in a Maplewood shopping plaza Friday evening, according to police.

Around 6:30 p.m., police said three people were conducting a drug deal inside a car in the parking lot of a Shop 'N Save near Manchester Rd. During the deal, one of the suspects robbed the driver at gunpoint.

According to authorities, the group exited the car and a brief physical altercation occurred. A man, later identified as 23-year-old Justin Jones, pulled out a gun and began firing towards the car.

"Everyone started hearing the pop pop pop sound," said witness Kathy Sorkin, "We looked across and saw this woman down on the ground and people immediately came to her assistance and turned her over to see where she was hit."

A 30-year-old woman was shot in the hip while walking in the area with a friend. She was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Officers took Jones and another suspect into custody. They were searching for a third man involved in the shooting and arrested him on Monday.

Jones was charged with one count of assault, one count of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held on $250,000 bond.
