A Granite City family is facing another obstacle after a drunk driver rammed into their home.

The family tells News 4 thieves broke into their home following the incident.

A pick-up truck ran into the front of Kristina Betts’ home and repairs could take a few months.

They are living in a hotel near Granite City since a city inspector condemned the house.

“They told us you have a half hour to get as much as you can and be out of the house,” said Betts.

Betts’ family only grabbed a few toiletries and basic clothing before heading to their hotel, but then they were shocked by a call from a neighbor.

“He’s like praying to the gods, like I hope anybody didn’t break into our house,” said Betts.

Betts said someone ransacked their home and went through every room, taking anything and everything of value.

“They took TV’s, gaming systems, they took our kids' Social Security cards, birth certificates, you name it they got it,” said Betts.

She said whoever did it may not realize how much they’ve hurt the family.

Betts told News 4, “The fact that our kids are scared to go into that house, it hurts my heart, my husband’s heart, my whole family’s heart.”

The Betts’ family is hoping to raise money so they will be able to move into a temporary rental home as they wait for repairs.
