An incident at an East St. Louis McDonald's left one suspect shot in the hip by an officer and another suspect taken into custody Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police (ISP) said the incident happened at the McDonald's on the corner of N. 24th St. and State St.

ISP said around 5 a.m., multiple shots were fired inside a home near the 1300 block of North 50th St. in Washington Park. Two suspects, later identified as Branden Shannon, 32, and Antoine Johnson, 27, got into a black SUV and went to the McDonald's drive-thru.

East St. Louis police saw the black SUV and tried to pull the vehicle over because it matched the description of the SUV that left the home where shots were fired. As officers attempted to pull the SUV over, the suspects began slowly driving away.

ISP said one of the suspects held a weapon outside the vehicle, prompting an officer to fire his gun at the vehicle. Sgt. Jerri Hochmuth of Illinois State Police told News 4 the officers fired their guns in fear of their lives.

The suspect in the passenger's seat was struck in the hip and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Shannon and Johnson were both charged with felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon. Both men are held on a $75,000 bond.

Two gunshot victims were found at the home in Washington Park. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

ISP is investigating to confirm if the suspects in the SUV are the people who fired shots in the home in Washington Park.

The East St. Louis officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave per department protocol.
