ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A driver suspected of a hit-and-run on Interstate 55 that left a 25-year-old man dead has been charged.

Adam Tainter is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, involuntary manslaughter, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and felony drug possession.

Police say Tainter struck and killed a homeless man in January, later identified as Montez J. Horton, on I-55 near Seventh St. before taking off and heading east.

Shortly after the incident, all lanes of the interstate were closed as accident reconstruction crews arrived at the scene.

Missouri Highway Patrol troopers assigned to the Gaming Division heard about the crash and discovered the description of a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse matched a vehicle inside the casino's parking garage at Lumiere.

Troopers found the car and then police used casino surveillance cameras to track Tainter down. He was found on the casino floor with a syringe full of meth, authorities say.

Authorities said he later admitted to the crime.
