St. Louis Police are taking a new approach to connecting with the public after big backlash this year.

The police department tweeted Monday they would start handing out Blues hockey cards to engage with young people in the community.

Last February, there was controversy after police announced they would start handing out candy from their patrol cars. The idea was quickly pulled.

Chief John Hayden started handing out the hockey cards this afternoon.

Hayden also brought a mobile office to the Walnut Park East neighborhood along with an ice cream truck to promote interaction with the community.
