FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Il. (KMOV.com)- An accident reconstruction team is investigating after a 28-year-old St. Louis man was fatally struck on Interstate 64 in Illinois.

Emergency crews arrived to westbound Interstate 64 at mile marker 10 near Fairview Heights and Caseyville around midnight for a report of fight on the road shoulder. Once they arrived, officers found a 28-year-old man lying in the road.

Illinois State Police said the victim was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Police said a 34-year-old female was driving westbound on I-64 in the center lane when she saw the man lying in the left lane and started rolling to the center lane.

The driver told police she couldn't avoid striking the man.

The highway was shut down for three hours overnight while investigators handled the crash.

No charges have been filed at this time, police say.
