ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- In St. Louis, as many as 50 percent of people living with AIDS are not in care.

That's why the AIDS Resource Center is merging with St. Louis Effort for AIDS.

The idea is to enhance and expand programs and services for people at risk and those living with the disease.

The new program aims to be a one-stop shop for services since many of those needing help do not have reliable transportation.

"this merger is coming at a critical time in the fight against AIDS," said Michael Gifford, president and CEO of AIDS Resource Center.

Officials say the newly merged organization will be better prepared to provide HIV care and treatment and stop the spread of the disease.
