The old New Melle Golf Course could soon be getting a new life as a park for St. Charles County.
County Executive Steve Ehlmann said the county secured the 153 -acre property on Foristell Road near Highway Z for parkland.
“It enables us to expand our county park system to provide more green space for outdoor activities, educational outreach and community events," said Ehlman.
The county purchased the golf course, which has been unused since 2011, for $15.00 an acre coming out to just over $2 million.
Over the years the land adjacent to the golf course has either been donated or purchased by the county. With this purchase, it will connect 395 acres. Specific plans and the timeline are still under review.
Currently the St Charles County Parks and Recreation Department operates 12 parks.
