The Board of Aldermen has approved plans to expand Ballpark Village.

The plans call for 550,000 square foot development, which will include a 29-story high-rise residential tower, an office building, more retail and restaurants. The estimated cost is $220 million.

Construction is expected to start in the second half of 2017.

The Cardinals believe the project will create more than 1,500 construction jobs and more than 1,000 permanent jobs.

The first phase of Ballpark Village opened in 2014.
