Some gun store owners in the St. Louis area say sales of AR-15's are rising as the national debate over gun control heats up.
At Ultimate Defense Shooting Range in St. Peters daily sales are now equaling what they normally would sell in a week.
"In the last three days we've sold 3 to 5 a day," says owner Paul Bastean.
Bastean says it’s no coincidence buyers are reacting to the sudden calls for gun control.
“It’s a younger dynamic than we’ve had in past events and I think social media plays a lot to that younger dynamic,” said Bastean.
Part of the reasons there are so many AR-15’s is because gun manufacturers overproduced them anticipating a Hilary Clinton presidential victory in 2016, Bastean said.
Prices for AR-15's can vary from around $400 to a couple of thousand dollars.
Calls for a ban of AR-15 are being raised after last week's school shooting in Florida that killed 17.
