Authorities said a suspect punched an officer during an attempted arrest in north St. Louis County Tuesday afternoon.
Police said St. Louis County and city police were trying to take a 24-year-old man into custody who was wanted for a probation violation and assault out of Hazelwood.
He was driving a stolen car near the intersection of Hanley and I-70, police said, when he stopped in a BP gas station parking lot.
Police said city officers tried to arrest him, but he resisted. He then punched an officer in the face and started to run off, police said. An officer deployed his taser, but it was unsuccessful and a foot pursuit began.
Authorities said a St. Louis County detective caught the suspect nearby.
Police recovered a gun from the stolen car.
