(KMOV.com) – Police in Caseyville say a Hazelwood, Missouri woman crashed into a rock embankment while driving under the influence of alcohol while her 18-month-old child was in the vehicle.
The incident happened on January 14 around 3:22 a.m. in the 2400 block of Old Country Inn Drive. According to investigators, Kristina N. Poteet, 24, drove through the landscaping of several businesses and stopped in the intersection of State Route 157 and Tucker Drive. The car came to a stop due to damages it sustained while driving through the landscaped areas.
According to police, Poteet spent the evening drinking with friends at the America's Best Inn & Suites in Caseyville before driving home. "(She) went through three different properties coming from the hotel: the Cracker Barrel, Taco Bell, and through Dairy Queen," said Caseyville Police Officer Matthew Sinnokrak. "Then finally to 157."
Police say Poteet had suspended Illinois license and an active search warrant due to a prior DUI arrest. She was arrested at the scene for DUI. The child was taken into protective custody by the Department of Children and Family Services.
Neither Poteet nor the child sustained any injuries during the accident.
Poteet was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while license suspended, and endangering the life of a child.
Her bond has been set at $20,000.
