ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A pedestrian was fatally struck causing a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 early Sunday morning.
Shortly before 2 a.m., 23-year-old Dillion Dean, of Granite City, was walking westbound in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Tucker when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene, police said.
Shortly after being struck, another vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old woman, ran over Dean, who was lying in the roadway. After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle stopped and was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old man.
The impact of the collision sent the second vehicle into the rear of a fourth vehicle which was driven by a 48-year-old man.
A fifth vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old woman, was side-swiped by an unknown vehicle after she pulled over to the side of the roadway in an attempt to help the pedestrian.
The interstate was shut down for about four hours following the accident.
Four people sustained injuries from the accident and were transported to the hospital. They are all in stable condition.
The identity of the deceased pedestrian has not been released.
