EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A pedestrian was hit by a MetroLink train in East St. Louis Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3:20 p.m. near the east Riverfront stop.

Officials say a 78-year-old from Dupo, Illinois, stumbled and fell from the platform onto the tracks.  As the train approached, he tried to get off the tracks and his lower leg was hit by a part of the train.

The man got himself away from the train and suffered abrasions and a lacerations. He was transported to a local hospital for his injuries.

Trains are operating at a single track at the East Riverfront station. 

Information on the victim’s condition was not immediately known.
