COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Three houses were damaged by an overnight fire in Collinsville.

The fire began at 10:50 p.m. Sunday on Courtland Place. Firefighters said the house where the fire began was under construction.

One house was vacant and the other two had two people inside. Everyone was able to get out of the homes safely, according to the Collinsville Fire Department.

Two of the homes were destroyed in the fire, fire officials said.

Collinsville, Maryville, Fairview Heights, Troy and State Park were called to the scene to assist in putting out the flames.

A neighbor said this is the second time one of the homes caught fire this year as it was under construction.

"It was just, I was in shock, awe, the house that had burned in January to the ground, the one next to it had so much damage trying to fix it up from last time," said Julie Papin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.

No other details have been released.
