(WEWS/CNN) - An Ohio father and his newborn son have both tested positive for COVID-19.
Dawn and Sean Clancy said their son, Eli, was born on March 23 at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland. Twelve days later, they had to rush him back to the hospital after he developed COVID-19 symptoms.
“Eli was really lethargic. He wasn't acting how he had been normally acting and his eyes weren’t really opening,” said Sean Clancy.
The dad said he fell ill a week prior. Despite quarantining himself in the basement, Eli started to show symptoms.
"I was down for the count and then a few days later Eli was," he said. “It was a helpless feeling that here I have this brand-new son, and I can’t do anything for him."
Clancy said he and his wife took all the needed precautions. It's still unclear whether Clancy and Eli were exposed to the virus at the same time.
Fortunately, both father and child are making a good recovery and are resting at home. They're keeping their distance from each other, sleeping in separate rooms, using different bathrooms and wearing masks until test results prove Clancy is no longer contagious.
The couple is also receiving an outpouring of support on Facebook, while warning everyone to stay patient, stay home and continue to practice social distancing.
