As many as 70 patients are moving out of the old St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville and moving into the new St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, Ill.
The new facility officially opened at 4 a.m. Saturday, the same time the old hospital officially closed.
"There are many colleagues there that have been there for up to 40 years, this is very bittersweet for them," said St. Elizabeth's CEO Peg Sebastian.
The new hospital will feature some state-of-the-art technology and more room for advances in modern medicine, according to Sebastian.
The new hospital will be more than miles away from the old hospital.
"It's a longer drive," said Jocelyn King who took her mother to the Belleville hospital for the last time on Friday. "I think overall, this city loves St. Elizabeth's."
