SHREWSBURY, Mo. ( – A murder-suicide investigation is underway in Shrewsbury after an elderly man and woman were fatally shot inside a home Thursday night.

Police said they were called to the 7800 block of Garden Avenue around 6 p.m. for a report of a 75-year-old woman who was attempting to “overdose” on pain medication.

When officers were unable to make contact with anyone, they entered the home through an unlocked door for a welfare check. Once they got inside the home, they found an elderly man dead. The man was reportedly shot one time.

Officers also found an elderly woman who was shot once. She was still breathing and taken to the hospital, where she later passed away.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates the incident is a murder-suicide. Officers said there is no danger to the community and the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are investigating.
