Damage inside a Florissant home after a Thursday morning fire.

Heavy smoke was seen coming from a house on Splendor Drive around 7 a.m.

Officials told News 4 the daughter, 54, saw the fire and notified mom, 88. The daughter was trying to escape through a window when fire crews arrived. The firefighters helped the daughter out and then got mom out too.

The mother and daughter are being treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to survive.

Fire officials said they are investigating to see if the fire was caused by a candle.

A Florissant Valley Fire official told News 4 closed bedroom doors helped to stop the spread of the fire. The official said firefighters advise sleeping with a bedroom door closed to prevent a fire from spreading.
