A man missing since Sunday has been found dead by the St. Louis County Police Department and Valley Park Fire Department.
Police were searching for 27-year-old Matthew Kirk since Monday morning were able to locate his body later that evening at approximately 8:30 pm.
An autopsy was performed on Tuesday and revealed the cause of death was drowning.
Kirk sent a message to a friend that he was swimming in the river near North Buder Park in Valley Park, Mo. at 6:20 p.m. on Sunday evening. That message was the last time Kirk, who had a history of mental illness, was heard from.
The St. Louis County Police Department announced their search for Kirk on Monday morning through their Facebook page.
The search included a variety of resources including helicopter, canine, ATV's, and boats according to police.
