ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Maryville University is welcoming its largest freshman class in history this year.
The 144-year-old school could have the largest increase of any private university in the United States as they welcome 570 freshman, up from 411 the year before.
The school is also seeing growth across the board because STEM-related programs are up about 40 percent and other majors, including cyber security and sports business management, are on the rise.
“The word is out there, not just locally and regionally but nationally,” said Dr. Mark Lombardi, Maryville University president. “Our freshman class has students from 29 states and 27 countries, and overall now on campus we have students from all 50 states and 50 countries.”
Lombardi credits the increase in enrollment to the school’s curriculum.
“The learning experience is a 1-1 personalized one,” he said. “It’s not a warehouse learning anymore and that’s something that when prospective students apply and see it in classrooms that’s something they want, that’s something they sign on to, and that’s one big reason they’re coming here.”
