ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Friday night dozens of local war veterans packed the Missouri Athletic Club downtown for the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight Gala.
News 4’s Steve Savard had the honor of emceeing the event.
The Honor Flight gives veterans a chance to visit their war memorials in the nation's capitol.
Tonight's guest speaker was Rob O'Neill, a retired member of Seal Team Six.
He's credited with firing the shot that took down Osama Bin Laden.
“It's such a great thing to have the veterans get together and fly to the nation's capitol,” he said. “And see the monuments and realize that no one has ever forgotten and no one was ever left behind."
In the last decade The Greater St. Louis Honor Flight has provided more than 1,500 free trips to Washington D.C for local veterans.
The organization operates through donations.
