ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com)-- The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is asking for donors to roll up their sleeves and donate blood to help patients in need.
In the last two weeks, patients at the hospitals have required high volumes of red blood cell transfusions which has drained some of the supplies.
According to a press release, the company said the push for the blood drive also stems from not being able to hold blood drives at local high schools and colleges during the summer months.
“We will need to replace these products on our shelves as soon as possible,” said Amanda Hess, Director, Donor and Public Relations. “Blood inventories are already challenged at this time of year, so we greatly appreciate donors stepping forward to help save lives."
Donors who donate through Sept. 8 will receive a $10 gift card to either Amazon, Casey's GeneralStores, Dairy Queen or Domino's. Also, anyone donating blood through Sept. 16 will get double points for the IMPACT donor loyalty store.
