Investigation after discovery of woman's body in car on Evans

Police are investigating the scene of a suspected shooting on Evans Avenue.

NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- A violent Sunday that saw four people killed continued into Monday in north St. Louis when two people were killed while sitting inside a car.

The latest shooting investigating took place around 6:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Euclid, in St. Louis' Fountain Park neighborhood.

Police said a man and woman were found dead inside a vehicle.

Monday's double homicide continued a string of violence that plagued the area Sunday.

"Very alarming,” said St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden at a press conference Monday afternoon.

Hayden said investigators had arrested two suspects already in one of the shootings Sunday. He said in most of the killings, drug were involved.

"In fact 50-percent of our homicides we know historically are drug-related,” said Hayden.

The spree of deadly shootings began Just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday when officers responded to the 4200 block of Evans Avenue in the Vandeventer neighborhood where they discovered the body of a woman inside a crashed vehicle.

Police said the woman, later identified as 33-year-old Whitney Whitman, of the 5200 block of Lexington, had suspected gunshot wounds.

Then, just before noon, 21-year-old Louis Bishop and his girlfriend, Tamella Buchanan, were gunned down. A friend reportedly spotted Bishop's car outside of his mom's house at Taylor Avenue and St. Louis Avenue in the Ville neighborhood.

When officers got to the area, they found Buchanan's body inside the car and Bishop's body in an alley a few blocks away.

"I just want them to find out who done this to my son and to Tamella and for justice to be done," said Marnice Blackwell, Bishop's mom. She said Tamella has a young son who was not with her at the time of the shooting.

Lastly, police were called to the 900 block of Canaan Drive around 9 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located Teon Buchanan, 23, of Selerno Drive dead from gunshot wounds. Officers found another man who was shot in the leg at the scene.

Detectives are still investigating all the incidents.

Mayor Lyda Krewson said it’ll take the public’s help to catch those responsible.

“So I would certainly encourage residents or anyone who may have seen something to call Crimestoppers or call the homicide division so that these be solved,” said Krewson.
