ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The judge in the Russian roulette-style death of an off-duty officer by an on-duty coworker has recused himself in the case.

Hendren & Alix

Nathaniel Hendren is accused of fatally shooting Officer Katlyn Alix during a Russian roulette-style game.

Judge David Roither recused himself from the case after Nathaniel Hendren’s defense team claimed he was biased against their client. The defense claimed the judge showed his biased during remarks that were made at the bond hearing.

According to News 4's Lauren Trager, Judge Roither was done with the case prior to recusing himself. She reports that the case would have been transferred to Division 16 with or without the recusal, which is normal procedure.

Hendren is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter after off-duty Officer Katlyn Alix was fatally shot  in late January.

BackStoppers said it is still deciding whether support Alix's loved ones.
