Investigators pursuing new leads in 1988 disappearance of St. Charles County boy

As of 2016, Scott Kleeschulte's family members reside at the same house in St. Charles County where Scott lived before he vanished.

Scott was 9-years-old when last seen in 1988. He came home from school, changed clothes and was last seen walking on Ken Drive toward West Adams to play in nearby woods. That same afternoon a thunderstorm rolled through. Scott was never seen again. Current St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar was just starting high school when Scott vanished and says he remembers the day well.

"I remember the night the helicopters were searching in the area where he was last seen. I remember it vividly," said Lohmar.

Lohmar says he believes now, as investigators always have, that Scott was abducted.

The boy's disappearance sparked massive searches but nothing was ever found, but tips have never stopped coming in.

Lohmar says that St. Charles police still have a detective assigned to looking into those tips. The search reignited in the summer of 2016.

"(We) brought the cadaver dogs out, different areas were searched, different areas we believe can be relevant," said Lohmar.

Lohmar says he can not mention if anything was found but he did say investigators are encouraged by recent developments.

Over the summer, there was a bombshell in Minnesota when the body of a boy missing since 1989 was found when a suspect led police to a shallow grave. Lohmar says local authorities had a conference call with Minnesota investigators, but there does not appear to be any connection. But he says, that case reaffirms that cold cases can be solved.

Lohmar says there are persons of interest in Scott's case.

"The investigation, while not exclusive to any other suspects, is focused on that small group of persons of interest," said Lohmar.
