ST. ANN, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Two suspects are in custody and police are looking for a third after an elderly man was found dead in St. Ann Thursday morning.
Investigators responded to the scene of a house fire in the 9900 block of Benson avenue and discovered the the body of man inside the home.
Initially reporting the death as suspicious, police are now investigating it as a homicide.
"I think it's horrible. I have nightmares thinking about it," said Sister Rose Ann Ficker, who lives next door to the home where the victim was found dead.
St. Ann Police still have the home roped off with crime scene tape and have an officer monitoring the home to prevent anyone from tampering with it while the investigation is going on.
Ficker said she had friendly interactions with her neighbor. "Whenever I'd see him, I'd greet him and there was always this lovely, lovely smile," said Ficker. As a nun, Ficker says she spends a lot of time away from her home and said her neighbor helped her out often. "There were occasions I would be gone for awhile, like more than a week, I would take a large plant to his house and he'd water it for me," said Ficker.
