(KMOV.com) - It was a seemingly normal Tuesday for Miller Hogan, but it was that day that his dreams of playing professional baseball came true.

"I found out about ten picks before it happened so it kind of took a little of the anxiety and surprise," said Hogan. "I think for sure my mom and dad were more excited about it then I was. They were so supportive of everything I do since I was a little kid so to see that dream come true for me was a big deal to them."

While his reaction may not have shown it, the Saint Louis University pitcher was excited to be selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the sixth round with the 180th overall pick.

"I try not to show a whole lot of emotion, it's just a part of the job I guess," said Hogan. "I would say the biggest thing was relief and confirmation that I'm good enough to do this somebody else believes that I can do it."

Hogan's stoic personality has paid off for him, especially on the mound. This season, Hogan was a two-time Atlantic 10 pitcher of the week all while making his mark in the Billiken record book as the single-season leader in strikeouts with 133.

Hogan wasn't a highly sought-after recruit in high school in Kansas, but Saint Louis University saw his potential to be something great.

"They gave me the opportunity. I wasn't highly recruited out of high school," said Hogan. "This was pretty much my only Division One offer. They showed interest early and they maintained interest throughout high school for me."

For Miller, it was a dream come true to leave his mark on the university that believed in him and helped him reach the next level.

"To come through and do the things that I dreamt about and had in my head," said Hogan. "That I wanted to accomplish, it's just really a fulfilling feeling."

Next, Hogan will go play short-season ball in Wappingers Falls, New York for the Hudson Valley Renegades.
