CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Family members of Danye Jones were emotional outside the St. Louis County Justice Center Thursday.
Melissa McKinnes claims various marks and indentations were found on her son’s body. She says it’s evidence he was murdered.
"He had a knot on his face," said McKinnes.
St. Louis County Police tell News 4 the Medical Examiner won't release an official cause of death until all tests are done, which could take a few weeks.
Melissa McKinnes says she wants police to continue investigating her son’s death.
Jones was found hanging from a tree two weeks ago at his family’s Spanish Lake home.
"I'm a mother who loves and misses her son," said McKinnes.
McKinnes shared other details about what was discovered October 17.
"His pants were rolled down, not pulled down, they were rolled down," said McKinnes.
News 4 asked what that means and McKinnes would not go into detail.
McKinnes has been an activist since the unrest in Ferguson in 2014 and says her family has been getting death threats for months.
"There were threats that he knew about and that's why he was so protective," said McKinnes.
Danye’s family says he’s the fourth person connected to the Ferguson protests to die. They claim each death is suspicious. Two of three remain under investigation.
St. Louis County police tell News 4 for now, this case is a suicide investigation.
