ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The attorney for Missouri Governor Eric Greitens said there is "zero truth" to rumors the governor will step down.

The rumors circulated on social media and within the Missouri statehouse Thursday night and Friday morning. News 4 has received a number of inquiries about the rumor from government staffers, lawmakers and people in the St. Louis community.

"There is zero truth to any suggestion that Governor Greitens is resigning," his attorney Jim Bennett told News 4 Friday morning. "He is at work today and will continue to serve as governor."

The rumors come a week after News 4 reported on a 2015 affair and blackmail allegations. Greitens confirmed the affair but has repeatedly denied the blackmail allegations.

Parker Briden, the governor's spokesman, said Greitens is working in his office Friday, and will not be speaking to the media.
