HIGHLAND, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A body was found in Silver Lake in Highland, Illinois Thursday morning, hours after a baby was rescued from a submerged car.
Emergency crews were called to Silver Lake, on Highway 143, after a vehicle went into it around 5:30 a.m.
“One of our paramedics had jumped in the water already and retrieved an infant from the water,” Highland Fire Department Captain Brad Menz said. “They did do CPR on the infant, took the child to the hospital, child was eventually flown to a St. Louis hospital.”
After the baby, described as a newborn, was pulled from the water, crews began working to pull the vehicle out.
“We had guys go into the water with cold suits and we were able to pull the vehicle out of the water,” Menz said.
Menz said when they pulled the vehicle out of the water, they noticed no one else was inside of it.
Before noon Thursday, a body was found in the lake. The identity of the body was not yet released.
The Madison County Sheriff's Department is taking over the investigation, according to Menz.
The condition of the baby has not been released.
