The nation's largest food redistributor is helping get rid of hunger in the St. Louis area.
Dots Foods made a major donation to six local food pantries Saturday morning but their contribution was truly uncommon.
"Toilet paper, dish detergent. Very pricey stuff," said Ken Bertha of St. Nicholas Food Pantry. "A lot of these items we can't obtain because they're either not available via donation or they cost us too much money."
St. Nicholas Food Pantry was one of the food banks that received a big donation.
Volunteers from Dots Foods delivered $5,000 worth of product to each food bank including locations in East St. Louis, Affton and Dardenne Praire.
The food redistributor gave the six organizations a list of available items and allowed them to select what best address their specific needs.
"You know the thing that makes this so unique is that they allow us to choose items that are important to our clients," said Bertha.
