Dog adopted after 525 days

(Meredith) – A “sweet and loving” dog named Cassie finally found her forever home after spending 525 days in an Ohio animal shelter.

“BEST NEWS OF THE DAY!” the Humane Society of Great Dayton wrote on Facebook Wednesday. "Every day for 525 days she has patiently waited for that perfect person to walk through the doors and pick her, and today was her day!"

Cassie first arrived at the shelter on Aug. 9, 2017. She was adopted multiple times but returned after families realized she’d be “happiest in a home without cats or small children,” the Dayton Daily News reported.

While living at the shelter, the hound-shepherd mix attended the START training program where she learned basic commands. Her skills even earned her a spot in a local TV ad for a car dealership.

It turned out to be the opportunity of a lifetime -- because after seeing Cassie in the ad, her current owner jumped at the chance to adopt her.

Though the staff formed a special bond with Cassie, they’re excited for her next chapter.

“Our staff may have shed a few tears saying goodbye and there may have been a few squeals of excitement, but we are so very happy for Cassie and her new family!” the shelter wrote.
