SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) - Firefighters are battling a deadly blaze in south St. Louis Friday.

The fire broke out in a two story home around 4:30 p.m. in the 7800 block of Water Street. 

Before firefighters arrived, Steve Ruba tried to warn people inside the home of the danger. 

"We pushed our way in the door, started screaming ran up the top of the stairs, nobody answered then we decided we better get out of there because the crackling of the wood," said Ruba. 

Officials say there were no smoke alarms in the home and crews had a tough time getting into the house due to hoarding issues. 

Inside the home, firefighters found a man who had died in the flames. 

Fire investigators are looking into what caused the blaze.
