EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) – CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who has information that leads to the arrest of the suspect responsible for the shooting death of an East St. Louis woman.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St.Louis has teamed up with the East St. Louis Police Department after the young mother was found dead in East St. Louis Tuesday morning.

Investigators were called to the area of 12th and Bond around 4 am about a possible home invasion in the 1200 block of Market St.

Within moment of officers arriving a woman's body was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

"This is a very violent crime, a senseless crime," says Major Case Squad Deputy Commander Lt. Kris Tharp.

Alexis Winston, 23, has been identified as the victim.

Police confirm a young child was in the home at the time of the shooting but was unharmed.

Relatives at the scene say Winston had only moved into the apartments about three months ago with her daughter.

"We're certain someone has information the Major Case Squad is interested in," Tharp says.
