ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Police in Creve Coeur are investigating their second jewelry store theft within 24 hours.

Around 4 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to Michael Genovese Jewelers on Olive Boulevard. When police arrived, they found a window to the business broken out and items from the store missing.

An employee told News 4 that the store's more expensive jewelry was locked up at the time of the burglary. Surveillance video from the store shows several men wearing hoodies climbing through a window.

"We've only been here in Creve Coeur for a couple of years and we always thought it was safe," said customer Greg Needham.

Just over 12 hours before the break-in, police were called to Vincent's Jewelry on Olive Boulevard after shots were fired and four masked men stole items. Police released surveillance video of the brazen, daylight robbery which shows the gunmen firing their rifles into a glass cases.

Police say the timing and close proximity of the crimes raises the possibility they are connected, though that's not a guarantee.

"It's real hard to tell with the loose clothing and so much of them covered up it's real hard to identify who one person may be as opposed to another," said Lieutenant John Romas with the Creve Coeur PD. "But we're definitely looking at that angle. The burglary compared to the robbery and see what kind of similarities we have."
