ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Volunteers from St. Paul Church of St. Paul, Mo spent the day cleaning up the area around St. Augustine Church in north St. Louis on Saturday.
“The prostitutes, drug dealers and all that stuff walking up and down the alleys day and night,” said Bernice Jones who lives in the area.
Jones said it has pained her to watch her neighborhood slowly fall apart and has gotten tired of it. So, she took her concerns to Better Family Life.
“We opened up the door for church involvement,” said James Clark of BFL.
The issue also caught the attention of a member of the St. Paul Church and prompted Father Gerald Blessing of St. Paul to encourage his parishioners to get involved.
So members from St. Augustine, Better Family Life and St. Paul worked together to clean up the neighborhood.
“We’re pretty far away from the city, my hope is our parishioners will get an experience of the struggles and trails that a lot of innocent people struggle with,” said Blessings.
Jones said although this is just the first step, she is happy it has started.
“My heart is overjoyed, I’m glad that somebody did hear my cry,” she said.
