Work is underway to convert an indoor soccer facility in Pacific into a new ice rink for the youth hockey.

News 4 found that many in Pacific hadn't heard about the new ice rink.

Albert Stoker said, "I think it would be good for the town, it would bring business for them."

In May, the Chesterfield Hockey Association announced on its website that a new ice hockey facility was being brought online for the organization's 2017 Fall/Winter season but didn't say where it would be located.

Recently the owners of "The Field" indoor soccer facility in Pacific announced that the Chesterfield Hockey Association purchased their building at 460 Indian Warpath Drive.

News 4 went by the building Monday and saw that the turf for the soccer field had been removed and filled two dumpsters and crews were busy turning the building into an ice rink.

Since the Hardees Iceplex in Chesterfield closed in 2016, after being sold to Dallas-based Top Golf, the Chesterfield Hockey Association has been looking for a new home. On its website the organization said it's still working to try to get a new ice rink built in Chesterfield.

News 4 reached out to a representative of the hockey association who confirmed the purchase but we were unable to reach a board member who could provide further details about the new youth hockey facility.

City administrator Steve Roth said he was glad to work with the Chesterfield Hockey Association and to have an ice rink in Pacific, "My understanding is they needed ice and I'm very glad to make it happen here."

Construction workers at the site said that the new rink is expected to be ready for use by the end of September.
