ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A Cape Girardeau man was taken into custody in St. Louis County after an alleged three-day crime spree.
Charles Ackerman, 30, reportedly committed his first crime in the area on June 4, when he robbed women at gunpoint outside a yoga studio in Maplewood.
He allegedly approached a woman who was inside her car outside the studio and asked to use her phone. She reportedly told him to use the phone at the yoga studio. When she got out of her car, the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded her car keys, police said.
Ackerman then allegedly followed the woman into the yoga studio, where she gave him the keys. He attempted to drive off in her Prius but couldn’t figure out how to operate it, according to police.
When he got off of the car, he left his backpack, which had hotel receipts, in the car, police said.
After leaving the Prius, Ackerman robbed another woman of her keys. After taking the keys, Ackerman reportedly couldn’t find the woman’s car on the parking lot and the woman was too scared to speak when asked where the car was located.
After failing to find the car, Ackerman hopped a fence and ran to a home on Hazel Avenue, where he forced open a door and demanded a homeowner’s car keys. He then allegedly stole the man’s van, which was later found in St. Louis.
A couple days later, on June 7, Ackerman allegedly robbed a Reliance Bank on South Highway Drive in Fenton. Police said he showed a gun and demanded money from the teller.
Monday, June 19, St. Louis County Police said they charged Ackerman with one count of first-degree robbery and one count of armed criminal action for the robbery. He is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond. His bail for the Maplewood crimes is also set at $100,000.
