ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com)- The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is pushing for statewide support of "Buckle Up Phone Down Day" Friday, October 20, to inspire Missouri drivers to be safe.

Officials at MoDOT report that six out of 10 people killed in car crashes were not buckled up. Additionally, MoDOT said car accidents with distracted cell phone users behind the wheel are up 20 percent since 2014.

MoDOT hopes that "Buckle Up Phone Down Day" leaves a lasting impression on Missouri businesses and drivers to make safety a habit.
