ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- An 11-year-old was shot while walking home from a St. Louis school Thursday afternoon is thankful for quick thinking by his brother.

Marco, a fifth grader at Aspire Academy, was shot in the 5300 block of Emerson Avenue around 4:30 p.m.

According to police he was walking down the street when he got into an argument with two suspects over a neighborhood dispute. During the argument, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired shots, grazing his shin.

His brother Martinez heard his cry and quickly dialed 911.

"I said 'my brother has been shot can you please and ambulance fast?" said Martinez. "She was like 'Is he still breathing?' I said 'yes, but he can't feel his leg."

Martinez stayed on the phone with the dispatcher until first responders arrived.

"I want to say he's a good brother and I thank him for that," said Marco.

Marco's mother says this isn't the first time her neighbors have become violent towards her son.

The search is still on for the suspects.
